Basketball League: Return to Play FAQs

Q: When will the Basketball League start?

A:  Effective February 1, 2021, Governor Cuomo lifted the ban on competitive play within High Risk Sports, such as Basketball.  His decision was done with the understanding that each county will determine the proper protocols and safety measures to ensure that everyone – Players, Coaches, Referees and Staff remain safe.

League games will not start until Suffolk County has clarified the "Return to Play" protocols for Intramural/Recreational type basketball leagues AND The Sports Arena has implemented any corresponding health and safety protocols to ensure full compliance.  We expect the Youth and Girls Spring/Summer basketball season to start mid/late April, however, its possible it won't be until May.  The Men's league will not start until mid May.

Q: I have a partial Store Credit from the Winter 2020 season which was canceled due to the COVID pandemic. How do I use it?

A: A Store Credit may only be used when registering either in person or by phone.  At the beginning of your conversation, please inform the person handling your registration that you have a Store Credit that you would like to apply to a registration for the Spring/Summer season.

Q: Will Spectators be Allowed?

A: We are waiting for Suffolk County to define a spectator policy as it applies to high risk indoor sports.  Once the county has provided their requirement, we will review and define our spectator policy.

Q. Are temperatures being taken before being allowed into The Sports Arena?

A:  Temperatures are taken for all by The Sports Arena staff with a no contact digital thermometer.  Anyone with a temperature higher than 99.5% is not be permitted into the facility.

Q: ARE PLAYERS BE REQUIRED TO WEAR FACE COVERINGS?

A: Yes, players are required to wear a face covering at all times.  If during the physical activity a player cannot tolerate the face covering, it may be removed, but must be put back on when the physical activity has concluded.

Q: WHAT ARE THE CLEANING/SANITIZING PROCEDURES?

A:  At the conclusion of each game/activity, our maintenance team follows enhanced cleaning protocols to sanitize prior to the next scheduled game/activity.  The Sports Arena's game/activity schedule has accounted for this extra cleaning time.  Please be respectful of this added measure and look to exit promptly after the game/activity you are attending has concluded.

Notwithstanding all the precautions that The Sports Arena will take, due to the nature of the virus, the risk of contracting COVID-19 remains, as we are all aware.  Please be safe, respect others and follow all of the precautions, protections and protocols put in place.

Q: WHAT SHOULD I DO WHEN I ARRIVE FOR MY GAME/ACTIVITY?

A: Incoming teams and spectators (if applicable) are not allowed to enter the facility until both our cleaning and sanitizing has been completed AND the opposing teams have exited.  At that time, incoming players and spectators will be allowed to enter the playing area or designated viewing location as defined by social distancing markers.

Q: DO I HAVE TO LEAVE AFTER THE CONCLUSION OF MY GAME/ACTIVITY?

A: Yes, upon the conclusion of each game, all individuals are asked to exit the arena fairly quickly so that our staff can prepare for the next game.
